Mission
CatchMUp Foundation’s mission is to empower youths to advance their futures, rise out of poverty, and become leaders in our community by overcoming barriers preventing access to education. We can help to interrupt the cycle of poverty for North Carolina’s most vulnerable and marginalized youth by increasing access to post-secondary education and the likelihood of graduation. Post-secondary education is one of the most well documented anti-poverty strategies to date. However, low income students and those with disabilities tend to be less likely to enter these programs and even less likely to complete them. Despite popular belief, academic success is more strongly tied to the economic stability of a student’s family than to the talent or efforts of the student. CatchMUp Foundation specifically aims to fill these gaps to help catch up youth to their peers and to their potential. We provide funding for housing, medical care, food, and non-tuition related education expenses, as well as mentorship to youths who have secured admission and tuition funding to accredited post-secondary institutions (4-year colleges, community colleges, or vocational/tech programs).
Our Story
A couple of years ago, we met a special individual who needed help. Michael lost his entire family at a very young age and has survived on his own since a young teenager. With our help, he was accepted to a prestigious university on a full tuition scholarship. However, the lack of family support rendered his scholarship useless. He still needed to pay for student housing, living expenses, non-tuition school related expenses, and medical treatment. So, we founded the CatchMUp Foundation to raise money to support Michael and others like him.
CatchMUp Foundation is committed not only to providing support but also to preserving the dignity and worth of the individuals we serve. In this spirit, we commit to keeping confidential the identities of those youth we serve. So, while we will provide truthful information and updates about our youths, we will not provide information that may identify their names or locations. In doing so, we are also gifting these young people the priceless experience of education as simply an ordinary kid, a novel experience for many of them.
We are based in the Triangle area in North Carolina.
